~ * ~ Wild Onions & Eggs ~ * ~

Yesterday , I cooked up some wild onions with eggs just like my ancestors have always did this time of the year. It was a ritual of the Cherokee people to cook wild onions and scrabbled eggs to celebrate Spring's arrival. Making them with fresh eggs really gave them a better flavor , so umm umm good.

Dh mowed/mulched our leaves the weekend , so today I plan to rake and mulch the garlic with them. I mulched the garlic back in the Fall but the winds have blew most the leaves through the woods. I'll probably work on the hugelkultur bed too.

What's on your agenda today ?

  1. What a lovely tradition - we must do that next year (or this year a little late) though I have no fresh eggs nor wild onions, but we can give it a try.

Yesterday our son-in-law and Don washed down the outside of our house (moss grows so fast in the Pacific Northwest) so today I will rake up the yard and flower beds to make it all nice and spiffy to go with the clean house. It wasn't that dirty, but amazing how much better it looks. Happy springtime!!!!

  3. What a yummy tradition!!

Well, I just designed a lamp this morning. Have some spring cleaning to do.

I didn't see the goslings nor ducklings yesterday. Not sure which they are. Maybe there is
both and I haven't seen them yet.

    God Bless You and Yours
    and Have a Great Day!!!

Hey, Joyce~wild onions and fresh eggs sounds yummy! Really wonderful-glad to see how your new girls are fitting in, so sorry about losing your little pullet to a hawk. We have lost more than I care to think about to the hawks here, too. My ladies are all laying now, so we are getting 6-8 eggs a day here. Way more than we use, but we have some very grateful neighbors! Have a lovely day, everything is fresh and springing to life after the soaking rain we got this morning. Take care~Lisa

  6. I love the wild onions that come up every spring. I even dry some in the dehydrator and make chives for my spice rack. Will have to put some in my eggs tomorrow. Thanks for the idea! Have a very blessed day.

  7. Hi JoAnn ~ It's not to late , the onions are just getting ready and store bought eggs will work , I've always used them in the past.
Have fun raking and working in the flower bed.

Hi Marie ~ Hope you get your stuff done. That's an interesting tag game , sounds like alot of fun.

Hi Flassie ~ Designing a lamp sounds fun. I plan to do some Spring cleaning tomorrow.

Hi Lisa ~ Great to hear from you , the girls are doing just fine. The two red ones just started laying. I don't think the black production hen has laid yet. The Ameraucana hens have got lazy , they haven't laid in about a week. I think the time change may have confused them. 6-8 eggs a day , that's wonderful.

Hi Peggy ~ I may try to dehydrate some , never thought about that , it's a good idea.

    ~ Happy Spring Blessings ~

  12. I was thinking that there was an old saying about Wild onions. This is what I thought it was.

Wild Onions couldn't tear me away. lol!

It is a song, Wild horses couldn't drag me away. lol!

Kind of funny how the mind, remembers differently sometimes.

    God Bless You and Yours!!!

  13. Hi Jeanne ~ I find out about this method from Callie , I love learning new things. The method sounds pretty logical and since we've had drought conditions the last few years , thought I should give it a try.

Hi Lib ~ Yep , ramps work the same way , but they don't grow here.

Hi Vickie ~ I like my eggs with veggies too. Maybe you'll have time to enjoy the weather after work.

Hi Callie ~ I love spring onions , they're delicious in eggs too.

Hi Flassie ~ That's pretty funny , but the song would probably sound like this " Wild onions will drive me away " (LOL) , it's strange how the minds works sometimes. I've did that before too , thought of the wrong words for a song.

    ~ Great Blessings ~
