According to the Old Farmer's Almanac , yesterday was a good day to plant potatoes , dark of the moon phase. So we got down & dirty ( literally ) and got those potatoes planted. Dh broke up the garden and got the rows ready. My Mom and I cut-up the seed potatoes on Monday , so they could dry out before we planted them. It was a little windy Monday , so that worked out well , they dried quickly. We planted 2 rows of white potatoes (Kennebec) and two rows of red potatoes (Red Pontiac).
Curious J and Little Froggy came to help , we were just about finished when they arrived. They got a chance to drop a few potatoes , play in the dirt and a ride on the tractor for Curious J.
We finished planting just as the sun was setting , it's suppose to rain for the next few days , so that should give those potatoes a good start ..... glad they're planted.

WOW, your rows look nice and long. You must yield a lot of potatoes from those rows. How wonderful. Isn't it so nice to get right down and dirty. I can't wait but we got snow "again" two days ago. Although it did'nt stay on the ground so hopefull that was it for now.
ReplyDeleteOh what fun - are you going to plant leeks so you can have leek and potato soup - or carrots so you can make stew. Looks like a fun day!!!
ReplyDeletePeggy , I hope so , we need all the taters we can grow , with the way the economy looks.
ReplyDeleteLib , We try to plant by the moon , if the weather permits.
Vickie , We have a big garden , it's a family garden , it helps feed 4 families.
JoAnn , I've never planted leeks or eat Potatoe Leek soup , but I bet it's good , will have to try it one day.
I'm growing carrots for the first time this year , although we do love stews and soups with carrots.
