Well , I've debated for a month or so , about how I was going to keep 2 two year olds and a soon to be 1 year old , who just started walking in the last 2 weeks away from the Christmas Tree. I decided I would create a tree they could really enjoy and I wouldn't worry about , sooo " Old McNana's Tree " became a vision. My late MIL and I collected beanie babies for a year or 2 back in the 90's , so I dug them out and they have became child friendly ornaments.
Curious J and Little Froggy were here last night to help decorate the tree , we had so much fun playing with ornaments (beanie babies ). The cat was chasing the birds , rat and the squirrel , the dogs were chasing the cat and the buffalo tried to trample them all (LOL). But we finally got them settled on the tree for the night. This morning I added the final touches to the tree , a few bows , raffia strands and a big red bow for the tree topper. It's a really cute tree and the Grands love it. Little Missy was here tonight , as they were leaving , she told the tree " Bye Bye " and blew the animals kisses (soo cute). I'll miss my traditional tree , but the Grands are Happy and I don't have to worry about ornaments being broken. So listen and you may hear us singing " Old McNana had a Tree ....... e.i.e.i....oooo.

That is a beautiful christmas tree. I love your idea of using the beanies. This is much safer for todlers.
ReplyDeleteThat is so neat!!! What a wonderful McNana you are!!! I have a friend that has breakable crystal ornaments on her tree and she says she has to keep telling the grandkids NO NO NO - don't touch. And I'm afraid that there is some horrid hand slapping in there too. What awful memories those kids will have of grandma and christmas. We have some breakable ornaments, but the grandsons are very careful, and if they get broken, then they get broken - they could have been broken just as easily by us. I have one special ornament that was mine from when I was a kid and it goes clear to the top of the tree and the boys don't really pay that much attention - it is fairly plain and they are more intersted in the ones that are trains, and snowmen, etc. Our grands are 5 and 8 now - so they don't have to have the toddler safe ornaments - but it is still fun to take some ornaments off the tree and play with them - I do love christmas.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! A friend of mine did that one year. The kids were older, still enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect solution! They will always remember this, and gosh, they're little for such a short time. hmmm maybe I should put cat toys on the tree for our new little curious one. lol
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous tree! And a GREAT idea! No worries about the little hands..... :0)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the wonderful comments , the tree is a hit with the grands and we'll be making beautiful memories around it.
