Thanksgiving and a Hawk Attack

Hi Everyone ~ Hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving , we had 2 Thanksgiving feast. Thanksgiving Day we were at my Mom's , enjoyed a huge feast and spent the afternoon outdoors enjoying a beautiful day. We've had so much rain lately , I was " Thankful " for the sun and being able to get 7 young kids outside to play and run off that youthful energy.

I had all the Grands Fri. , my daughters had to work and the youngest daughter wanted to hit the Black Friday sales early before work , so Curious J and Little Froggy stayed overnight Thur. Boy , did I have my hands full Fri , but I survived (LOL). My youngest daugther got me a new digital camera for Christmas , she gave it to me early.

Sunday , we had Thanksgiving with my Dh's family at my sister-in-laws house. We were Blessed again with wonderful weather , temps in the 70's , so the kids were able to play outside before we ate.

The keets are almost grown as you can see , but one of them was lost to a hawk attack Sunday. Dh saw 2 hawks flying around Sunday , when I went to collect the eggs , the chickens and guinea fowl were hiding in the underbrush. They were clucking , squawking and wouldn't come out for their treats. So I went back to the house and told Dh I thought that the hawk must have tried to attack , because they were hiding and wouldn't come out. Later I strolled back down to the coop , they were starting to come out , but seemed frightened. The 3 older guinea kept going to the edge of the woods and squawking , so I walked over there to check it out. I saw a headless guinea , nothing left but the ribs and alot of feathers , I know this is nature's way , but it was upsetting anyway , so now we have 11 guinea fowl left. Our chickens are still laying well , we're so " Thankful " for those wonderful eggs , they made great sweet potato pies for Thanksgiving.

~ Herbal Tinctures ~

I finally got batteries for my camera , but my camera still isn't working properly. I can take photos inside the house , although the quality of the photos aren't so great. When I take photos outside , they're cloudy and you can barely see the images. I've tried to adjust the lighting , but it doesn't help. Anyway , I've took the best photos I could manage of the things I've been creating this month , hope to get a new camera soon (Did you hear me Santa ). I've started a new blog , it's a daily diary of what I'm doing each day. You can click here ~ http://novembercreations.blogspot.com/ ~ if you would like to see what I've been creating.

~ Firewood , Garlic , Wild Herbs ~ It's been Busy around here ~

Hope everyone is doing well , I haven't been on the computer for a few days , it was a very busy weekend around here. I've been busy harvesting wild herbs , chopping roots and making tinctures. I've made chickweed , dandelion , echinacea , yellow dock and dandelion/yellow dock combination tinctures. As I dug the echinacea Friday , I separated the plants and replanted them , in a few years I should have a beautiful stand of echinacea aka purple cone flowers.

Yesterday , I began planting the garlic seed . We were planning to have it in the ground by Oct 15th , but we've had so much rain , the garden has been to wet to plow and get ready for planting. I got 2 rows planted , but plan to plant 2 more , it's suppose to rain today and tomorrow , so the other rows will have to wait until it dries up again. We also cut and stacked firewood yesterday , so much to do and so little time it seems. But , I'm thankful for what we have accomplished.

I've been creating each day , a couple of drawings , some pine cone crafts , herbal goodies and I hope gardening counts. I've sent Dh for batteries twice , the first time on Halloween and he forgot them , the second time he went to our local Dollar General and they didn't have any rechargeable batteries. So I don't have pics , I've got to venture out to the grocery store sometime this week , so I'll pick some up. I'll be blopping ( blog hopping today ) , so I'll be by to visit soon.

~ Late End of the October Blog Party Update ~

I'm a little late posting about the " End of the October Blog Party " , but here's the final update .............

On Oct 29th ~ I won these orange and black earrings from Mrs. B's " 31 Days of Halloween ". I plan to wear them next Halloween!

On Oct 30th ~ The Grand kids and I made smelly , jack-o-lantern sun catchers from coffee filters , they are really cute. I let them use markers to draw a few squiggles , then we painted them with Vanilla , Butter & Nut flavoring and sponged them with orange paint. When the sun or heat heats them up , they smell wonderful. Sorry , no pics , all batteries are depleted.

Buzz Light Year and Woody from the "Toy Story " movie came by for a visit on Halloween. We also had the cutest bunny and a sweet little tiger that dropped by too , they were all sooo precious !!

On Oct 31st ~ We stayed home and gave out candy to the Grands , they were the only trick-or-treaters we had. I managed to take a few pics of the Grands with some regular batteries I had on hand , they don't look so great , but I least I pictures. Then I watched the " Good Witch " on the Hallmark channel , it was a quiet and relaxing evening after the Grands short visit..
I enjoyed participating in the " October Blog Party " , it was fun and I managed to do a little something for the 31 days. I didn't do half the things I had planned , but I pleased I completed the challenge. Speaking of challenges , I'm participating in a new challenge for November , it's called " Art Every Day Month ". The challenge is to do some kind of art each day , looking forward to being creative this month.
