~ 11 Keets ~

Dh and I gathered all the keets up yesterday. It took us an hour , yep they're fast little newborns. He ran them out of the pen and I tried to catch them , boy was it a sight. The keets ran straight out of the holding pen into the goat pen , when I went into the goat pen to try and get them , they ran through the fence into the chicken run , when I went into the chicken run they ran out in the high grass or back to the goat pen (LOL). We finally gave on that idea and I decided we needed a net. So I went to the out building and found 2 butterfly nets , we've never used them to catch butterflies , but they were perfect for capturing keets. We waited for them to come back to the holding pen and scooped them up quickly and put them in a bucket. The adult guineas didn't know what to think , but they didn't attack us. They just ran around trying to keep an eye on the keets. There are 11 little keets , they're doing well. I'll keep them in the house for a couple of weeks , then move them to the chicken coop for a month or so before releasing them with the others. I felt so bad taking them away from their mother , but I knew they wouldn't survive if I didn't. I kept telling the mother guinea , she would be getting them back in a couple of weeks. She did an excellent job of getting them hatched , the mother is one of the guinea keets that were hatched by our chicken last year. Need to get off computer and go clean the aquarium , give them food and fresh water , so they can get settled in for the night.

Big job, catching those babies. When we lived in Kansas our kids had chickens and the troubles we had trying to get them all back in the hen house when a tornado warning came up - but we had to get them in or they would have blown to the next state.

They are so cute! My peafowl are not very good at keeping their babies alive even though they (usually) try.

The keets really are adorable. I admire your fortitude in getting your goal accomplished JoyceAnn!

What I wonder is do the Momma's remember their young then when you remove them for their own safety? Probably not but I am forever wondering about stuff like that, lol.

Have a Blessed Weekend!!!

I can imagine this was a hilariously
comical site to see! lol!

I think you could turn so
much of your life into many
children's books.

I think one of those little
guiena's needs a butterfly
name. Or maybe all of them.
lol! One could be called,
NOVA Hopi for Chases Butterflies.
lol!

Didn't you take a free classes in
herbs online? If so which site was
it?

I think I need to make some of
that digestive rememdy myself.

Remember when I posted about
building a snowman out in
the woods on Violettes site?

Well today while I was at the
library I found a book and a
movie called, Stranger in the
Woods. It is about a magical
tale of animals reacting to a
snowman who appears after a
winter storm.

That would be something if the
person who wrote it had come
upon that snowman I built. lol!

Just so many things that happen
at your farmette seems like good
story material for childrens books.

Who knows they might even become
movies!

God Bless You and Yours!!!

Think I need to learn how to
make some of those tincture
remedies.

I am hoping to gather more of
the seeds. I gathered some that
was dry but I will have to wait
I think till it stops raining
and more of the seeds dry.

Thanks for stopping in!

God Bless You and Yours!!!

Butterfly nets, what a great idea! I can't imagine trying to catch those cute little boogers without something like that.
